About Maureen: My Quilting Path Hello. I'm Maureen of Maureen's Creative Quilting (MCQ). Welcome to my Web site. May I tell you a little about me. I has been an avid quilter for 30 years and a Patchwork and Quilting instructor for over 15 years. My introduction to quilting began around the age of 8 when I spent summers with my Grandmother. The highlight of these times were the trips to the closest fabric store so that I could chose fabric for my Grandmother’s quilts. These visits lasted for several years but eventually school, a career, and life in general superseded becoming involved in the craft. Nevertheless the interest remained. It wasn’t until 1974, many years after those wonderful days with my Grandmother, that I attempted my first project - an appliqued a baby quilt created via the “trial and error” method. Shortly after I took my first quilting course, stitching a log cabin quilt. I was immediately hooked and made many quilts over the next 18 years. In 1992 I become a co-owner/manager of a quilt, fashion fabric and sewing machine store. For five years I taught quilting and sewing techniques on a regular basis both in the shop and throughout the community. In 1998 I left the shop to pursue a full time career as a Patchwork and Quilting Instructor. It was at this time when I started developing my own style in quilting. Knowing that I wanted to “step outside the box” I began taking courses in Design in Patchwork and Quilting through the London Institute of City & Guilds. I received a Certificate in Creative Studies - Preparing Working Designs, Patchwork & Quilting in October 2003 and a Diploma in Patchwork & Quilting in May of 2006. During the past seven years I have also completed several courses presented by other City & Guilds tutors in areas of both design and colour theory. In the year 2000, I was nominated by both my students and peers for the distinguished CQA Teacher of the Year award. To my absolute delight she was chosen. In addition, I have had many articles published in both quilting magazines and newsletters. I have also judged exhibits and presented workshops and lectures on a regular basis at a variety of conferences, retreats, guilds and shops both nationally and internationally. Recently my quilt “Memories of Maui” was selected as a finalist in the Houston Festival of Quilts 2006. So, that a bit about me. If you'd like to know more, please check out my website. Thank you for visiting. |
