Needleturn Appliqué Techniques
Needleturn appliqué is considered to be the oldest and most universal way to appliqué. This technique which requires very little preparation, involves turning the seam allowance under with the needle.  In the first session students will work various samples rather than a project while practicing the techniques. The second session will cover the making of stems, overlays to transfer a pattern and many other techniques that will put you well on the road to loving needleturn appliqué. Supply List available.
Dates: Tue.  Jan. 29 & Feb. 5    7:00pm – 9:30pm
Skill Level: beginner and beyond

Traditional Hand Quilting “With A Bit of a Twist”
Maureen will begin this workshop by going over both the supplies and the techniques that make hand quilting a relaxing experience. Students will then practice their stitching on a small wallhanging. By the end of these sessions they will understand why so many quilters love to hand quilt. A bit of a modern twist in this project is the addition of the Couched Filling Stitch. It will be up to each individual student as to whether she adds this element to her project or not. Supply List available.

Embellished Tulips
Saturday, March 29, 2008: 11am to 5pm
This contemporary Shadow Appliqué technique is a great project for anyone who loves the look of appliqué but doesn't want to take the time to stitch the edges under. Once the shapes are cut out they are placed on the background fabric, covered with tulle and then layered on batting and backing. Hand quilting, embroidery stitches and beading are then used to finish the piece.

Crazy Quilting 1
Saturday, April 12 and April 26, 2008: 10:30am to 4:30pm
When Maureen was researching the History of Quilting in Canada for her Diploma in P&Q, she had the rare pleasure of studying several crazy quilts that were tucked safely away in museum archives. This inspired her to revist this age old technique. In these sessions Maureen will share with her students many different techniques, including embroidery stitches from these antique quilts, beading,  and silk ribbon embroidery to name a few. Students will work on a project of her/his choice. Project possibilities are as follows: lap quilt (or larger if desired), wallhanging, needlework roll, tea cozy, ornament, Christmas stocking etc…

Traditional Hand Quilting With A Twist
Saturday, April 19, 2008: 10:30am to 4:30pm
Maureen will begin this workshop by going over both the supplies and techniques that make hand quilting a relaxing experience. Students will then practice their stitching so at the end of the day they understand why so many of us love to hand quilt. A bit of a modern twist in this project is the addition of the Couched Filling Stitch. It will be up to each individual student as to whether she adds this element to her project.

Around Every Courner: Template Free Curved Piecing
Friday, Feb. 29, 2008: 10:00am to 4:30pm
Students will love the potential of curved piecing once they have learned just how easy it can be!! Using just a rotary cutter - NO rulers or templates - students will begin a “one of a kind” top using simple curved piecing techniques. This is more of a techniques Workshop with each student creating her own “masterpiece” rather than one identical to mine. Suggestions will be made on how students might add another dimension to their tops using applique designs etc.
